Chloroquine CQ and hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil HCQ have been used for many years, initially for the treatment of malaria but now more commonly for the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus 1. Jan 05, 2020 Hydroxychloroquine is a well tolerated medication for various rheumatologic and dermatologic conditions. Its main side effects are gastrointestinal upset, skin rash, headache, and ocular toxicity. Within the eye, hydroxychloroquine negatively impacts the cornea, ciliary body, and retina. Plaquenil is a drug used to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosis. It is a very good drug and gives many patients significant relief from their symptoms. Plaquenil related eye complications are not common. Plaquenil can produce pigment changes in the macula of the retina.

This medication is also used, usually with other medications, to treat certain auto-immune diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis) when other medications have not worked or cannot be used. Discuss the most recent information with your doctor before traveling to areas where malaria occurs.

Insomnia and Plaquenil? Plaquenil gave me anxiety and I could not sleep while taking a higher dose. You should probably call your doctor and tell them. Maybe they can adjust your milligrams to a lower dose to see if that is what is causing the insomnia. It is no fun not to be able to sleep, i hope you get this figured out and get some rest -
