Can i take ginseng if i'm am on plaquenil

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria. It may take several weeks or months to see improvement if you are taking this for lupus or arthritis. Hydroxychloroquine may not prevent malaria in all cases. Hydroxychloroquine may not prevent. I only worry that you being off of plaquenil completely for 2 weeks is going to back fire and start your inflamation again which will take a while for the plaquenil to kick back in. If you start feeling sick with a lupus flare, make sure you call your dr. immediately and see if you can start a low dose of it again.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.

Jun 05, 2014 I'm sure the Siberian Ginseng is also helping with energy. I think everyone should be taking Cat's Claw though. Will start 2 drops of it tomorrow. I'm hoping the addition of herbs will finally help make me feel better as more than 1.5 years of antibiotics is not getting me better. Plaquenil is a slow-acting drug, meaning that it can take up to 6 months to experience the full benefits of this medication, but it is possible for symptoms to improve in as few as 1 or 2 months. Plaquenil and other antimalarials are the key to controlling lupus long-term, and some lupus patients may be on Plaquenil for the rest of their lives.
