    Background/Purpose Hydroxychloroquine HCQ is a widely-used medication in many rheumatologic conditions. He showed evidence that the guidelines from the AAO are indeed changing clinical practice. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis, prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability.
