Lichen Planopilaris is the specific name given to lichen planus on the scalp that causes permanent scarring alopecia with inflammation around affected hair follicles. It mostly affects middle-aged adults as distinct patches of hair loss. I have suffered for two years with I have suffered for two years with bullous lichen planus. I am allergic to Plaquenil. I am now on prednisone, which is new for me. I've had clobetasol propionate creams and antibacterial creams. I have the disease in my mouth and private parts, throat, arms, legs, and abdomen, along with bleeding ears. Lichen planopilaris LPP is a relatively uncommon cutaneous disorder characterized by a chronic lymphocytic inflammation that leads to the selective destruction of hair follicles, thus resulting in scarring alopecia. 1 Some authors consider LPP as a follicular form of lichen planus, although only about 30% of patients present cutaneous or mucosal lesions of lichen planus. 2

The cause of the inflammation that leads to lichen planus is unknown. Lichen planus can resolve on its own without treatment or be chronic, even with aggressive treatment.

Mar 07, 2018 Lichen planus is an inflammatory condition that causes rashes or ridges on the nails, skin, mouth, and genitalia. A rare form of the disease, familial bullous lichen planus, is inherited. Otherwise it's mostly an autoimmune disorder or a reaction to certain painkillers, antibiotics, or metal dental fillings. A punch and slice biopsy confirmed I have lichen planus chronicus. The dermatologist advised me it is an immune system skin disease. I have been using clobetasol for a year but does not seem to help. The doctor advised me that oral medication is the next step. When lichen planus involves one or more fingernails or toenails, it can appear as thickening, splitting, ridges, or grooves. In severe outbreaks, the entire nail may be destroyed. On the scalp, lichen planus called lichen planopilaris may cause redness, irritation, and, in some cases, permanent hair loss.
