    Hydroxychloroquine HCQ, sold under the brand name Plaquenil among others, is a medication used for the prevention and treatment of certain types of malaria. Specifically it is used for chloroquine-sensitive malaria. Other uses include treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and porphyria cutanea tarda. I started Plaquenil a few weeks ago and had a few days of really whacky, trippy dreams. Things seem to be improving - even the gurgly tummy.     The Plaquenil dreams are much more bizarre. They involve people and places I don't know, they are recurrrent, one in particular I'll have the smell and taste of something cloyingly sweet in my mouth and I can smell it nut I can't identify it, and the situations are very strange, nonsensical and usually dangerous. I have had itchy skin problems for a long time and have seen it increase but not sure if it is the plaquenil or the Lupus and RA causing it.     PLAQUENIL" Rheumatoid Arthritis Community - Support Group I don't know for sure if it is the plaquenil or other meds but my rheumy seems to have my inflammation/stiffness under pretty good control. Been taking plaquenil and arava for about a year. Just rediced plaquenil from one tablet twice a day to one tablet once a day. I also take Cimzia injections bi-weekly but that has only been for about 6 months.
