Plaquenil is the brand name for the prescription drug hydroxychloroquine. It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and others. One of the main reasons why excessive scalp sweating isn’t the best is because sweat tends to dry out your scalp and hinder the growth of new hair. Moreover, the natural salts present in sweat can also strip the colour of your hair, which results in premature greying.

Let me tell you what weaning down from Plaquenil is like. My ENT doctor and my rheumatologist were both blissfully unaware that Plaquenil can cause tinnitus. It's something I think they should know! The leaflet also says it can cause hairloss. In my case its hasn't - but I know it could do. It can cause nausea, diahorrea and constipation and a whole host of other things. I'm very lucky.
