Is methotrexate the same as plaquenil

It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and others. Malaria is spread by mosquitoes, which transmit the parasites that cause the infection, usually in tropical and subtropical parts of the world.

Re Plaquenil - when to take the 2 doses? I kinda was thinking the same thing, but then wondered why it is prescribed as "one pill twice a day" instead of "two pills once a day". I see that you have hashimoto's & connective tissue disease. I was diagnosed with RA in march and have been on increasing dose of methotrexate. Yesterday my rheumatologist started me on hydroxychloroquine as well. Is anyone else on this combination and have you had any problems with it as I know hydroxychloroquine can cause eye sight problems. Thanks I am on both methotrexate and plaquenil. I have been on plaquenil for over a year and a half and methotrexate since September. I have had no side effects from either one. I get my eyes checked every six months and I am now at once a month on blood work for my liver enzymes used to be every 2 weeks.

For example, it may be combined with an antibiotic to treat chronic Q-fever, which humans usually catch from farm animals or raw milk. Plaquenil is used to treat other types of infections too.

Hydroxychloroquine is sometimes combined with methotrexate for additive benefits for signs and symptoms or as part of a regimen of “triple therapy” with methotrexate and sulfasalazine. Mechanism The mechanism of action of antimalarials in the treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis is unknown but is thought to involve changes in. Both medications are typically taken once per week, at the same time each week, throughout the duration of treatment. Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine should always be taken for the entire length of time prescribed. Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are designed to be taken with food. Oct 09, 2015 My Neurologist then advised me to come off Plaquenil as he said it was such a nasty drug! No communication between the pair of them within the same hospital, where I also work ironically! Within a few weeks of coming off Plaquenil I was in a massive, and I do mean MASSIVE relapse, which took ages to get over.

Healthboards - Immune & Autoimmune - Lupus Pregnancy and Plaquenil Hi, I'm new to posting here. I have lupus, and I had my daughter in Feb. 05. I have never taken plaquenil as I have a seizure disorder as well, however, I do know that my Rheumy told me that the only safe drug to take during pregnancy is prednisone.
